TeatrInGestAzione is a multidisciplinary company founded in Naples in 2006 by Anna Gesualdi and Giovanni Trono, independent artists and researchers active both in Italy and abroad, authors of hybrid works and devices.
In Monàs, Teatringestazione investigate the status of image in the “screenocracy” era starting from Debord’s theories. It is a hybrid play that mixes participative installation, choreographic autopoiesis and live cinema, and begets a “temporary microsociety”, a space of coexistence. The stage device that the audience is involved in is conceived as an ecosystem where to experience the transposition of one’s body into image, to reflect on the relationship between real space and representation space, and on how an exertion of power is either enacted or suffered in this fracture.
The screen receives the movements of the viewers/participants and returns them in an instant choreography. In a reciprocal interference, the body and its double create a landscape made of “drifting” figures, fictitious identities or copies of real identities; unrecognizable faces, bodies fragmented by the focal opening of the camera, uncompleted presences that, in front of the screen, remain evocation and representation. The individuals contribute to the background, the mass become echo, premonition. The self is fragmented in an infinite array of coexistent identities. “To be” is a rush to superimpose, to suppress the other. There is no escaping, only dissolving and disappearing. And when the repetition consumes he game, the real substance of things appears.
