In 2023 Danae Festival celebrates an important anniversary: 25 years since its birth. The Fetus-Quando si nasce podcast is an attempt to approach the immemorial event of the birth of Homo Sapiens by studying and analyzing the first record by the singer-songwriter Franco Battiato, whose actual title is «Fetus».
Released in January 1972, when Battiato was 27 years old, «Fetus» is a work made of eight tracks and fully dedicated to the narration of birth, starting from the heart pulse heard at the beginning of the record and the verses «I was yet to be born\But I already felt my heart». The cover by Gianni Sassi portrays a fetus, while the record stands out for its daring mix of the most diverse sound materials: from the voices of the Milan’s «Istituto San Vincenzo» nursery school to arias by J.S. Bach and the voices of the astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin Aldrin. Consistently with Franco Battiato’s cosmic and open attitude, the Fetus-Quando si nasce podcast makes use of the «Fetus» record as an opportunity to expatiate and create a multi-voiced narration involving Gianluigi Pezzera, musician and sound engineer, Giordano Casiraghi, journalist and writer, Fabio Cantelli Anibaldi, writer and researcher.
The podcast also includes a vox populi on Franco Battiato, gathered in Milan’s Piazzale Loreto.
